McDonough Power Operation Round-Up Awards $6,500 in Grants to Five Non-Profits

Continuing the mission of concern for the community, Operation Round-Up awards local non-profits with grants to support the work they do in the community. Recently McDonough Power Cooperative Operation Round-Up trustees awarded five grants, totaling $6,500 to the following organizations.

Western Illinois Regional Council-CAA received funding to help their Project Santa program which will provide Christmas gifts to approximately 500 children in McDonough County.

The Samaritan Well, Inc. received funding to make improvements to the residents’ environmental health and privacy at their shelters. Their shelters provide a safe, stable, and nurturing environment for men, women, and children experiencing homelessness.

First Christian Church of Macomb was awarded funding for their 8th annual Secret Santa Christmas party. The December event provides approximately 80 people with disabilities a joyful evening filled with dinner, games, carol singing, gifts, and a visit from Santa.

Good Food Collaborative received funding to help outfit and stock a new choice-based food pantry in McDonough County which will open in January of 2023. Their storefront will be housed in the northeast corner of Western Illinois Regional Council; what is now their used clothing area.

Bushnell Fire Protection District received funds that will go towards the purchase of updated vehicle extrication equipment, including battery powered cutters, spreaders, and a ram. This new equipment will help rescue crews extricate entrapped patients quicker and more efficiently.

The Operation Round-Up program allows McDonough Power Cooperative members to reach out to worthy causes in their community and work together to help others. Thank you to those members who round up their electric bills to the next highest dollar each month and to McDonough Power Cooperative Cares for making these donations possible. You have helped donate over $172,000 to organizations in the community!

The next round of grants will be awarded in January. Charitable organizations that serve the communities within McDonough Power Cooperative service territory are eligible to apply. Applications can be picked up at McDonough Power or downloaded at mcdonoughpower.com.
